A short drive northeast from Wilkes Barre and Dallas, or northwest from Scranton and Clarks Summit; Tunkhannock is part of the Endless Mountains region that offers countless opportunities for recreation in all weather. The region also boasts several wineries, antique shops, and art studios. The Tunkhannock Business and Professional Association invites you to come and explore what is special about Tunkhannock.

What's Happening Now

The Tunkhannock Business and Professional Association is hosting “Sip and Savor” on two Saturdays this summer. This Saturday’s event will be the inaugural run of the event designed to highlight area businesses along with art, music and some sampling of treats. The Tunkhannock business community is a thriving network of family-owned restaurants and businesses. Sip and Savor is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to learn more about the local talent and services. Most of the featured activities will run from 11am to 4pm, but the hours at specific businesses may differ. The second event in Saturday, September 7th.

Both of the “Sip and Savor” events also coincide with Reading and Northern Railroad diesel train rides that are coming to Tunkhannock from the Jim Thorpe area with up to 100 passengers on the train expected on Saturday. Passengers make a day of the excursion that departs the Nesquehoning Station at 9:30 am and is scheduled to arrive at approximately 12:30. Lunch will also be provided on the train. Riders will depart at 4pm.

Participants in Saturday’s event include Nimble Hill Winery and Brewery, 3971 US-6, which has created a gallery of some art from a group of intellectually disabled adults from the Bridge Street location of Beacon Specialized Living. They regularly attend art classes at the Dietrich Theater’s Sheldon Art Studio.  These sessions offer them a valuable opportunity to express themselves creatively through various mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and pottery. The supportive and inclusive environment of the Sheldon Art Studio allows these individuals to explore their artistic talents, fostering their self-esteem and providing them with a sense of accomplishment and joy. Through their art, they not only develop new skills but also form meaningful connections with others, enriching their lives and the community around them. The classes are taught by Stephen and Amy Colley, BFA, MFA.

Nearby, one of Tunkhannock’s newer retail establishments, The Local Emporium, 104 PA-92 is offering the creative work of 965 Revive: Eric & Pam Shields, they upcycle vintage pieces into unique, functional art like lamps and bird feeders, blending history and craftsmanship into every creation.

Along Tioga St, participants Kristy Alinoski Photography, at the corner of Warren and Tioga Streets who will be displaying her beautiful showcase of pet photos that capture the spirit and personality of the four-legged friends in your life. Eclectic Heart Antiques and Furnishings at 2 E. Tioga is hosting artists who are members of Montrose’s Slanted Cooperative Gallery in Montrose. The featured artists specialize in the fabric workings of quilting and creating many decorative and functional pieces for the home. Chippy White Table, at 5 E. Tioga hosts Ashlee, owner of The Posy Plot Flower Farm, Lake Winola. The seasonal cut flower farm grows varieties of annual and perennial flowers for bouquets and Floral Design. She will be offering a small bouquet bar, priced per stem.

Nearly at 13 E. Tioga, Awakening Hearts, one of town’s newest locations, will be having a free lecture on connecting with our intuition and book signing. Musicians are also on tap during the day. Mercantile 22 at 22 E. Tioga, is sharing some examples of great summer entertaining tips with Mocktails, Cocktails and Savory Bites. You can enjoy the summer evenings and not fuss with great mixes for drinks and snacks. Thoughts turn to cooler weather with Christmas in July at Monzies Floral Design where they will be hosting a “Christmas in July” event and also some mocktail/cocktail samplings.

Kitson Arts alliance at 34 E. Tioga St, features a curated collection of unique pieces from National and International Artists.

The Dietrich Theater, along with featured movies, is hosting the art work of Ben and Morgan Jackson in the main gallery. Ebb’s Candy Jar at 60 Bridge St. hosts beautiful gardens and on Saturday will be featuring chocolate samples and mushroom themed games and activities for the whole family.

Greenwood’s Furniture is hosting an art collection by noted acrylic painter Astrid Glodek who loves painting Christ’s creations. “I paint His flowers, animals, landscapes and more to bring you the excitement, joy and wonder that I feel when I am painting. May my art help you feel this joy too!”

Musical Artists preforming during the day include Gary Carl at Monzies Floral Design from 12:30 – 1:30 pm and Alex D Kay at Lenehan & Dempsey, 34 Tioga St, 1:30 – 3pm. Also on hand will be Plein Air artist LP Howard who will be set up in the Dietrich Theater Lawn near Bridge Street. Music and Plein air artist coordinated by Kitson Arts Alliance.

Hometown Harvest Fest

Christmas in Our Hometown

Friday kicks off with a tree lighting by Santa and Mrs. Claus at Peoples Security Bank, Tioga Street a little after 5pm with a live broadcast by WBRE-TV. Then the evening kicks off with Horse and Wagon rides, Trolley rides, Ice Carvings, entertainment, and Living Windows and other entertainment.

Founder's Day

The tradition of Tunkhannock’s Founder’s Day pulls together activities that both observe long-established service and also celebrates new activities. The annual event, includes festivities that celebrate the over 100 years anniversary of an area business and also adds entertainment, music, over 150 vendors along with a greater assortment of food.
